00:08as a crime of terrorism on Tuesday.

00:18This was a frightening, well-planned, targeted murder that was intended to cause shock and

00:25attention and intimidation.

00:28The indictment accused Mangione of murdering Thompson with the intent to

00:32influence the policy of a unit of government by intimidation or coercion.

00:37But in some circles, Mangione has been celebrated.

00:41Street art in Seattle depicts Nintendo video game character Luigi, a reference to Mangione,

00:47and a crossed-out United Health logo.

00:50Americans pay more for health care than any other country.

00:53Government data shows spending on insurance premiums, out-of-pocket co-payments and other

00:58services has been on the rise in recent years.

01:01The death of a top executive of a health insurer lit a tinderbox of anger from those struggling

01:07to receive and pay for medical care.

01:09Over a thousand donations have poured into an online fundraiser for Mangione's legal

01:14defense.

01:15New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch spoke against rationalizing Mangione's alleged

01:20actions.

01:22There is no heroism in what Mangione did.

01:26This was a senseless act of violence.

01:28It was a cold and calculated crime that stole a life and put New Yorkers at risk.

01:35We don't celebrate murders and we don't lionize the killing of anyone.

01:40And any attempt to rationalize this is vile, reckless and offensive to our deeply held

01:47principles of justice.

01:50Mangione suffered from chronic back pain that affected his daily life, according to friends

01:54and social media posts.

01:56It is unclear, though, whether his own health played a role in the shooting.

02:00United Health Group said last week Mangione was not one of the insurer's customers.

02:05If convicted on all 11 counts, 26-year-old Mangione would face a mandatory sentence of

02:11life in prison without parole.
