00:00The Armed Forces of the Philippines, or AFP, insists it will continue to provide security
00:05for the second-highest government official, despite the latter's refusal to accept replacements
00:11to her current roster of security detail.
00:14The AFP assures to never assign any personnel that would be incapable of performing their
00:19duties, especially in securing an official of such stature.
00:23Patrick de Jesus has the details.
00:25It is our mission at the Presidential Security Command to protect the President, the Vice
00:33President, and other dignitaries from harm and embarrassment.
00:37This was the response of the Armed Forces of the Philippines to Vice President Sara
00:42Duterte's statement that she would not accept replacements from the military for her security
00:47detail.
00:48She also mentioned she sent a letter to AFP Chief of Staff General Romeo Browner Jr.
00:54According to the Vice President, she is willing to hire private security to protect her if
00:59all her security personnel are replaced.
01:02General Browner had previously stated that members of the Vice Presidential Security
01:07and Protection Group, or VPSPG, would be replaced due to ongoing investigations by the police
01:14and Congress.
01:15However, the AFP emphasized it will continue to fulfill its mandate to ensure Vice President
01:21Duterte's security is not compromised.
01:23We will not detail that it is not possible to fulfill such a mission.
01:30We will perform our mandate to secure the Vice President, and we will make sure that
01:33it will not be compromised.
01:35Right now, the process of replacing members of the VPSPG is still ongoing.
