Groundwork North Eastern Cumbria have been operating across the region for
00:04
over 30 years now, delivering community regeneration environmental projects and
00:10
looking at ways to work with communities and ensure that nature can thrive at the same time.
00:16
We can help people to understand their bills and make sure that they're just paying for what
00:21
they're using and their bills are accurate, they're on the most appropriate tariff for
00:25
them and for their household use of energy. It's about saving people money on their energy bills
00:32
but also making their homes more efficient, making their behaviour around the home more
00:37
energy efficient. A 2022 study found that over 14% of northeast households live in fuel poverty.
00:45
This is above the national average and yet the energy companies keep posting year-on-year record
00:49
profits in the billions. The program that's operating across the northeast combined authority
00:54
area is funded through the northeast combined authority but we work in partnership with the
01:00
Energy Saving Trust to deliver across the seven individual local authority areas as well.
01:06
So the funding is very much about providing in-home support, online advice, telephone advice,
01:15
however people feel comfortable to get in touch with us. Some of the best things to save
01:21
your money and save energy are energy saving light bulbs or LED light bulbs, also reflective
01:27
panels to put behind your radiators to reflect the heat back in the room, make those more efficient,
01:32
things like draft excluders. Sometimes we can also provide slow cookers to people to help them
01:38
as a low energy way to heat their food. So they can contact a home energy advisor via telephone
01:45
so they can dial 0808 175 9345 or they can visit the website which is energyadvicenortheast.co.uk
01:56
and they'll be able to access the in-home support that way.
