00:00Datuk Siri Najib Razak had sought evidence from a U.S. court to bolster his defense in
00:07the 1MDB trial at the risk of implicating himself, the High Court heard on Monday.
00:13He testified that it would have been totally insane for him to attempt the evidence if
00:18he did not believe it would exonerate him.
00:21Instead of seeking for the evidence, the former Prime Minister said it would be logical for
00:25him to suppress the evidence if he did not believe it would support his defense.
00:31Najib was referring to the letters sent by his lawyers to judges in the U.S. Southern
00:35and Eastern District Court in New York on March 14, 2021.
00:40He claimed that evidence beneficial to his case was mentioned by former Goldman Sachs
00:44banker Tim Leissner during his testimony in Roger Ng's trial, which revealed key details
00:50about the duo's alleged roles in the multibillion-dollar 1MDB scandal.
00:55Najib was testifying on the sixth day of his defense in the 2.28 billion ringgit 1MDB
01:01graft trial.
01:02The hearing continues before Justice Colin Lawrence-Sequeira.
