00:00The High Court was informed that the investigations leading to Datuk S. Najib Razak's charges
00:07in the RM2.28 billion won Malaysia development Berhad 1 MDB trial were shoddy and incomplete.
00:15Defence lawyer Wan Azwan Aiman Wan Fakhruddin argued that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption
00:20Commission, MACC, had not finished recording Najib's statement before he was charged.
00:26He claimed there was a predetermined intention to prosecute Najib, as consent to prosecute
00:31was issued before the investigation was complete.
00:35The defence highlighted that while the investigation paper and proposed charges were submitted
00:40to the Attorney General's Chambers on August 28, 2018, consent to prosecute was granted
00:48on September 19, and Najib's statement was only completed on September 20.
00:54Wan Azwan Aiman also noted that Najib had not been provided clear details of the allegations,
01:01hindering his ability to mount an effective early defence.
01:04Seventy-one-year-old Najib faces 25 charges, four for abuse of power and 21 for money laundering,
01:11all relating to RM2.28 billion.
01:14The abuse of power charges fall under Section 23, Subsection 1 of the MACC Act 2009.
01:22The money laundering charges fall under Section 4, Subsection 1, Subsection A of the Anti-Money
01:29Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act.
