00:00Welcome to Mojo Plays and today we're looking at which Assassin's Creed deaths took too

00:11many liberties with the truth.

00:32Robert de Sable, Assassin's Creed It's difficult to verify many of the events

00:42of the first Assassin's Creed game, but we do know some things for sure.

00:47Primarily, we know that Robert de Sable, the game's big villain, actually died in completely

00:52the wrong year.

00:53He died in 1193, not 1191, as the game would suggest.

00:58He actually wasn't even a Templar at all until 1192.

01:02And like with most Crusaders, we also don't know how he died specifically, nor how old

01:08he was, only that he likely died in battle.

01:11But this isn't Ubisoft being lazy.

01:13Their alternate history is thought through, with the game claiming that he died at the

01:17Battle of Arsuf in 1191, which ended in a victory for the Christians.

01:28Carlo Grimaldi, Assassin's Creed 2 This is the only entry on our list that concerns

01:37the assassination of a fictional character, but it's so outlandish that we had to include

01:42it.

01:43This is the infamous assassination mission where Ezio enlists the help of Leonardo da

01:48Vinci and his prototype flying machine.

01:50Avoiding archers and following the bonfires, he flies over Venice to infiltrate the Doge's

01:56palace from above, assassinating Grimaldi, who's himself successfully assassinated

02:01the current Doge.

02:02Ezio then goes on to assassinate many more important Venetian leaders, as this was a

02:07period when the Republic of Venice was in turmoil.

02:10But almost certainly, da Vinci's flying machines weren't involved in this.

02:15Not in the least because most of his designs wouldn't have worked.

02:28Mirabeau, Assassin's Creed Unity He's the leader of the Parisian Assassins,

02:37but was also a crucial and extremely popular figure during the French Revolution.

02:42At least until people found out he'd been secretly working for the King the entire time

02:47to try and implement a constitutional monarchy.

02:50In the game though, he's poisoned by Bellic after wanting to renew the truce between the

02:54Assassins and Templars.

02:56Arno and Bellic fight to the death following this betrayal, with Bellic viewing Mirabeau

03:01as a traitor.

03:02In real life, Mirabeau wasn't assassinated at all.

03:06He became increasingly ill because of pericarditis, caused by hard living in his younger days

03:11and died of natural causes in 1791.

03:23David Brewster, Assassin's Creed Syndicate He was an influential Scottish academic primarily

03:40concerned with early photography and invented the kaleidoscope.

03:44But in Assassin's Creed Syndicate, he's a Templar given the Apple of Eden, tasked

03:48with unraveling its secrets and learning how to use it.

03:51He's also Evie's first assassination target.

03:54While she successfully assassinates him, the consequence is that the Apple of Eden explodes,

04:00infuriating other Assassins.

04:02There isn't actually much information on how Brewster died, only that it was in 1868.

04:09But we sincerely doubt that anybody wanted to assassinate him or that his death caused

04:13a lab explosion.

04:15It's true though that he had a feud with Charles Darwin, since he didn't agree with

04:20the theory of evolution.

04:29William Johnson, Assassin's Creed III During the colonial period, William Johnson

04:40was a crucial part of Britain's military operations in the American frontier, and learned

04:45multiple Native American languages to serve as an envoy between British forces and indigenous

04:50people.

04:51In Assassin's Creed III, he's working with the Templars, and the Assassins and Native

04:55American tribes believe that Johnson is actually working against their interests.

05:00Connor assassinates him in his Grand Mansion, and Johnson says that he always intended to

05:05protect the tribes.

05:07In real life, Johnson simply died of a stroke, but that doesn't have the drama of an assassination.

05:12He also generally did protect Native tribes in reality, but at the same time, became very

05:18wealthy by doing so.

05:25The Earl of Cardigan, Assassin's Creed Syndicate

05:35Another bombastic assassination from Syndicate, this is one of the very last ones the Fry

05:40Twins are asked to pull off.

05:42Jacob sneaks into the House of Parliament, posing as Frederick Aberlein, and assassinates

05:47Cardigan in a secret meeting room.

05:49In real life, none of this happened.

05:51He didn't even die in London.

05:53He actually died of injuries sustained while falling off a horse in Northamptonshire.

05:58Interestingly, Cardigan is the last target, while Brewster is the first, suggesting that

06:04the entire events of Assassin's Creed Syndicate take place over only one month.

06:16Cesare Borgia, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood

06:18He's a memorable villain and a worthy opponent for Ezio, fleeing Rome after his control of

06:27the city is weakened.

06:28In the game, Cesare remains a formidable soldier and commander until the very last, falling

06:33in battle to Ezio.

06:35But that's not how it happened in real life.

06:38He was increasingly ill during his later years, and slowly lost power following the death

06:43of his father.

06:44He did die in Navarre, Spain, as in the game, but not honorably during battle.

06:50He was actually ambushed by a group of enemy knights who brutally killed him, stripped

06:55him naked, and left him on the ground.

06:57Ezio didn't stoop that low in brotherhood, thankfully.

07:00Cesare was buried in Navarre, and his remains are still there to this day.

07:13Pericles, Assassin's Creed Odyssey

07:23Halfway through Assassin's Creed Odyssey, and Athens is in the grip of its infamous

07:27and mysterious plague.

07:29The plague struck in 430 BC, and historians still disagree about exactly what the disease

07:35was.

07:36But tens of thousands of Athenians died, and among them was Pericles, the city's leader

07:42and well-respected statesman.

07:44In the game, Pericles does contract the plague and begin to grow weaker, but it's not what

07:50ultimately kills him.

07:51He ends up being assassinated by Deimos with the aim to destroy the Athenian state completely.

07:57In both versions, he wasn't alone in his death, and it's believed that his death

08:01did lead to Athens losing the Peloponnesian War overall.

08:14Charles Gabriel Sievert, Assassin's Creed Unity

08:16He's not that well known of a figure outside of France, but he was heavily involved in

08:27France's 18th century wars in the North Atlantic, which players of Assassin's Creed Rogue will

08:33be familiar with.

08:34He ended up retiring from the military and dying in 1791.

08:38In Unity, however, not only is Sievert a Templar, but he's extremely involved in the French

08:44Revolution.

08:45Bruno tracks him down to Notre Dame de Paris, and if you unlock the unique kill, stabs him

08:50in the head through the screen of the confessional.

08:53This absolutely didn't happen.

08:56Not in the least because Sievert didn't even die in Paris.

09:00He died in Versailles, miles away from Notre Dame.

09:10Charles the Fat, Assassin's Creed Valhalla

09:20In real life, Charles the Fat, who had no rightful heir, was ultimately deposed following

09:26long periods of sickness and weak rule, with various people vying for control of his empire.

09:32We don't actually know exactly how he was deposed, but he did die in January in the

09:38year 888 AD after less than seven years as Emperor.

09:43But though we don't know everything, the events of Assassin's Creed Valhalla are still

09:48largely inaccurate, because Eivor is given the choice of whether to kill or spare him

09:54after a boss fight.

09:55Though even if you do spare him, he still dies a few weeks later.

09:59Bizarrely, sparing Charles' life requires periodically setting him on fire and then

10:04locking him in a different room, which we doubt is even remotely realistic.
