Phillips: Govt reviewing sentences for crimes against women

00:00There is an entire sentencing review going on in the government at the moment which includes

00:07many of the sentences that are meted out for the various crimes such as domestic abuse,

00:14sexual violence and stalking that largely affect women. And there are disparities that people can

00:22point to within the law and so the sentencing review of which I will take part in and the Home

00:28Office will take part in. One of the measures of the six measures that we are putting in place to

00:34improve stalking today is that judges will be able to on acquittal at a criminal in criminal

00:44charges will be able to put a stalking protection order in place if they feel

00:48that there is still a risk to the victim in that situation.
