00:00So what we're announcing today is a new crime of spiking, currently spiking sits
00:06across various different pieces of legislation and isn't necessarily that
00:10easy to spot and also charge in the criminal law so we're going to introduce
00:16a new crime of spiking and what we will do at the same time as doing
00:23that because just making a new crime won't necessarily change that much we're
00:27going to change the way that police gather data and report on that data to
00:31make sure we know where the problem of spiking is happening what sort of
00:35spiking is prolific and how we can target measures to try and prevent it in
00:39the future as well as rolling out training for 10,000 bar staff across the
00:44country in pubs just like Norton's in Digbeth where we are today to make sure
00:49that bar staff are trained in how to spot perpetrating behavior support
00:54victims if they've been spiked but also look at evidence gather so that we can
00:59hopefully use that new crime to actually get some justice for some of the
01:03victims.
