Full moon names and their meanings

A full moon occurs roughly once every month. Each month's full moon has a different name and meaning.

00:20January's full moon is known as the wolf moon, named for the time of year when wolves

00:27February is the month of the snow moon, when days are often cold with snow on the ground.

00:32March's full moon is called the worm moon, when earthworms begin to emerge from the ground

00:36in response to the changing season.

00:39April is home to the pink moon, named after the color of the wild ground phlox, which

00:43are among the first flowers to bloom in spring.

00:46If April showers bring May flowers, it's only fitting that May's full moon is called

00:50the flower moon.

00:52The full moon in June is known as the strawberry moon, because they are ready to harvest.

00:57Frequent thunderstorms in July give this month's full moon the nickname the thunder moon.

01:03August's full moon is named the sturgeon moon, after the largest freshwater fish in

01:07North America.

01:09The harvest moon is for the full moon, that rises closest to the September equinox, which

01:14farmers use to work into the night, harvesting crops.

01:17The hunter's moon always follows the harvest moon, the light which hunters used to gather

01:22meat for the winter.

01:24November's full moon is the beaver moon, after beavers that begin to prepare for winter.

01:29And lastly, December's full moon speaks for itself, the cold moon.
