First look at Northern Lights Leeds at Temple Newsam

Here’s a first-look at the lights and sights of Northern Lights Leeds at Temple Newsam until 31st December.

00:00I'm Catherine and I'm the Creative Director for From the Fields and we have curated this

00:10brilliant light trail in Temple Newsome Park in Leeds.

00:14Northern Lights Leeds is a kind of 60 to 90 minute walk throughout what I would say one

00:19of the most beautiful parks in England which is Temple Newsome and we have curated a brilliant

00:24trail of lighting installations from artists from all over to fill the park. It has a seasonal

00:31theme and bits of Christmas dotted around it but really it's for the whole winter period

00:36we run right up until New Year's Eve.

00:39Some of the pieces we'd like you to feel quite immersed in so they'll be in the woodlands

00:45and they'll be either side of you and some of them there'll be a show so it'll run for

00:50sort of three to four minutes and it'll be quite dramatic but each of the installations

00:54here are designed specifically for the site so they make the most of the beautiful park

00:59and the different layers of the park as well but really it's brilliant lighting installations

01:04at a lovely time of year suited for everybody essentially.

01:13We compose all of the music on site so we have a lead composer that makes the music

01:19for every single one of the installations so there isn't any Moriah Carey but there

01:23are loads of other brilliant things to listen to. Whenever I come out to an event outdoors

01:28I sometimes think am I really coming out to this it's six o'clock at night on a weekday

01:32or a weekend when it's really cold and then actually when I get outside like experiencing

01:37something outdoors in the winter is just so special especially when you don't really get

01:43to do something in the dark it gets dark so early in the UK seeing a park that you might

01:48see every day or every other day or once a month in a completely different way not

01:52only obviously at night but with all these brilliant lighting installations yeah we've

01:56had some really lovely feedback about how special it is.
