00:00As the Chair of 2024's ASEAN Senior Transport Officials and Ministers' Meeting, Malaysia
00:14envisions renewed commitments to the wide array of ASEAN Transport Initiatives, an expanded
00:20focus on new emerging issues and other areas of innovation.
00:26Under the Kuala Lumpur Transport Strategic Plan 2016-2025, we have made remarkable strides.
00:35From regional policies on sustainable air and maritime transport to cutting-edge logistics
00:41solutions, we are laying the foundation for a future where every ASEAN citizen benefits
00:48from seamless connectivity.
00:51But let's be clear, the work is far from over.
00:55Our task now is to look forward and think boldly.
00:59How do we reduce greenhouse gas emissions in transport?
01:03How do we harness the transformative power of artificial intelligence and the Internet
01:08of Things?
01:10And how do we create infrastructure that is not only efficient, but also resilient in
01:15the face of climate change?
01:18These are not abstract questions, they are challenges that demand concrete actions.
01:24And the solutions we craft here will resonate far beyond this volume.
01:30They will shape the future of our cities, our industries and our people.
01:35Thus, we need to continue conversation to understand common interests of the region
01:40– for example, regional power grid to support EVs adoption, cruise industry to strengthen
01:48tourism connectivity, and uniform highway design standards to support broader highway
01:54network and road safety.
01:57At its core, ASEAN is more than a collection of nations.
02:02It is a community, bound by shared values and a common purpose.
02:07This community thrives when every voice is heard, and every citizen feels the impact
02:13of our work.
02:15That's why we must prioritise initiatives that improve public transport, enhance road
02:20safety and empower our citizens.
02:24As we advance policies for economic growth, we must also ask, how do these policies touch
02:30the lives of everyday people?
02:34Are we making it easier for parents to get to work, for students to reach their schools,
02:39and for goods to move across borders?
02:43This is the essence of what ASEAN Community envision.
02:47The development of our beloved region must not be focusing only on the economic statistics,
02:53but to also give appropriate emphasis on the community empowerment.
02:58On this, I express thanks to our leaders for their guidance at the 42nd ASEAN Summit in
03:04Indonesia last year, for ASEAN to continue the momentum of ASEAN Community 2015 that
03:11was launched in this city nine years ago.
03:15Malaysia is eager to work with all Member States on the ASEAN Community Vision 2045,
03:22in following the theme of shaping a green, connected and sustainable tomorrow.
03:27Ladies and gentlemen, the road ahead is not without obstacles.
03:31We are full of challenges, but I believe, as I know you do, that by working together,
03:38we can overcome any challenge.
