Pittie Abandoned On Chain In NYC Is Nothing But Love

Pittie was abandoned in an alleyway during a NYC heatwave — until a group of New Yorkers came together to rescue him. We talked to his rescuer and his new mom about his amazingly resilient and loving personality!

00:00I was walking to the gym one afternoon when a man stopped me and said,

00:03excuse me miss, do you know anyone that wants a dog?

00:06And there he was, the most broken dog I had ever seen.

00:09He was in a back alley, surrounded by filth, tethered to a short chain.

00:14Who knows how long he had been left in the New York City summer heat.

00:17With the help of the man who found him, two police officers, and a handful of good Samaritans,

00:22we got to work rescuing Mr. Pickles.

00:25Sweet baby, they left you here so long.

00:29They left you here.

00:31Nobody had ever been nice to this dog a day in his life, that much was clear.

00:37You're doing so good, Gordon. You're doing so good. We're going to get you some help.

00:42I know, I'm not going to the gym. I'm going to stay here.

00:45After 45 minutes of gentle baby talk and lots of treats,

00:48I was able to coax him into the car and get him to City Vet, who stayed open late waiting for him.

00:55After knowing nothing but the cruelty of humans, he was able to muster the tiniest tail wag for me.

01:02Once he was medically cleared, Rescue City stepped up, pulling him into their program,

01:06and he spent several weeks coming out of his shell in a loving foster home with their volunteer Gretchen.

01:12Mr. Pickles, now named River, has found his forever home with a family that goes above and beyond

01:17to make him feel loved and cared for.

01:20We pulled up right next to him and I remember saying, there he is.

01:28And we were just sort of fixated upon each other.

01:34It literally still makes me tear up to think about when we met him.

01:40He's really starting to settle in now.

01:50There they are.

01:52We rescued three goats that live on part of our property,

01:56and I thought to myself, what is this city dog going to think?

02:03Literally every day he wants to go out and visit the goats.

02:08It's really adorable.

02:11He is truly a special, special soul.

02:13We have had the most amazing experience rescuing him.

02:20He is such a loving dog.

02:25He has not had an easy life.

02:29He deserves a really good life.

02:34I can't change what happened to him in the past,

02:38but I can certainly change what his future holds.
