00:00Hello there, welcome to your Tuesday evening weather update from the Met
00:04Office. It's bitterly cold through the next few days with some widespread and
00:08hard frost, also the risk of snow showers and ice. Warnings are in force this
00:13evening and overnight. Northern Ireland, northern parts of Scotland, southeast
00:17Scotland, the east coast of England as well as Wales. Further accumulations are
00:21likely with the risk of ice and wherever you are it's very cold as we start the
00:25day on Wednesday. Further snow showers likely through into Thursday as this
00:29system here just grazes the far south and southwest of England. We could see
00:33some snow on its northern edge as the rain clears down towards the southeast.
00:38Now Thursday into Friday always the chance of some wintry showers but inland
00:42yet again we'll see some sunshine after very cold air by night and a widespread
00:48frost. And then all change as we head into the weekend, the weather turns very
00:52lively. For the time being if you are stepping out or driving this evening
00:56watch out for these frequent snow showers. Further accumulations as I said
00:59and also the risk of ice. They're running down the east coast, a relentless wind
01:04here. Inland temperatures falling well below freezing very early on through the
01:08evening. Snow showers just clipping the far north of Northern Ireland as well
01:13and a mix of clouds and a little showery rain and sleet towards the far south
01:17which will clear. And then much of the country will see starry skies overnight.
01:22The air is crystal clear and temperatures will fall very quickly.
01:26However watch out for the snow and ice across central and northern areas of
01:31Scotland. And down this east coast here you can see a mix of rain, sleet, snow and
01:35hail just clipping the eastern side. Showers will penetrate quite far inland
01:40for Northern Ireland moving in across Scotland as well as Wales. And for
01:44Scotland yes that's where we'll see the highest accumulations into the early
01:48hours of Wednesday morning. As temperatures dip down to minus 11 minus
01:5310 degrees Celsius across the far north in Shelter for the central about minus
01:576 degrees Celsius. Further south across England and Wales in the countryside yes
02:01well below freezing for this time of year. It is very cold indeed. So that
02:06leads into a bright start tomorrow morning for many areas but bitter
02:10outside. Wrap up warm and watch out for ice. Now through the day these snow
02:15showers will continue. Again it's where you're exposed to the wind particularly
02:20along the coast but they will move inland as well. This feature moves down
02:24across Lincolnshire as well as East Anglia through the latter part of
02:28tomorrow. So expect some rain, sleet and snow as we head through into the
02:32afternoon there. And snow showers continuing across Northern Ireland
02:35running down towards the Irish Sea and Wales. Temperatures then will
02:40sub-zero where you see that snow across Scotland. Highest temperatures possibly
02:45around four or five degrees Celsius but feeling cold in the wind towards more
02:48northern and eastern areas. Now through Wednesday evening and overnight subtle
02:52changes in our weather. The winds will be a bit lighter inland so temperatures
02:56could be a bit lower particularly where you've seen snow. Snow showers continue
03:00across this northwestern side down towards Northern Ireland and then later
03:03on thickening cloud brings outbreaks of rain clipping the far southwest of
03:07Wales possibly. Some snow over the moors possible as well as the rain gradually
03:12slides down towards the southeast as we head through the latter part of the day.
03:16Here's Friday for you. A ridge of high pressure, a cold start today. Bitter
03:21again in the north with the risk of ice as well as snow. And then this system
03:26winds up for the weekend. Gales, snow on its northern edge and then outbreaks of
03:32rain track across the country. So wherever you are take note that the
03:35weather is changing yet again into the weekend. Before that though stay safe,
03:39stay warm and stay up to date with all the warnings. See you later.
