00:00It's now time for a look at tonight's weather forecast with Josette.
00:04Thank you, Disha. Good evening, Trinidad and Tobago. Happy Thursday. We're just one more
00:09sleep away from the weekend, so let's get into your forecast. Today's weather was a bit of a
00:15mix-up. As usual, we had mostly fair skies, but just when we thought things were going well,
00:21we got hit with some scattered showers. If you've been wondering what's going on with all these
00:26random bursts of rain this week, it may have a little bit to do with our friend the ITCZ.
00:31Some parts of south definitely felt the brunt of it, and we may see some decreased rainfall
00:36activity, however. Developments coming out of the Met Office says that there's a chance that
00:41the La Niña phenomenon is expected to develop soon, leading to drier conditions for the rest
00:46of 2024 and continuing into 2025. And here's a tidbit for you guys at home. The La Niña phenomenon
00:53is something that cools the surface of the Pacific Ocean near the equator. Tonight should be mostly
00:59fair, with temps at a cool 25 degrees Celsius in Trinidad and 27 in Tobago. We'll see some
01:05increased cloudiness overnight, giving way to a cloudy, slightly hazy and breezy day with the
01:11occasional shower. There's also a mild concentration of Sahara dust present, so if you're dust
01:17sensitive, you might want to grab a mask. Tomorrow's temps stand at 33 degrees Celsius across both
01:23islands, but it is going to feel a bit warmer because of that heat index standing at a solid
01:2836. For our early risers, know that sunrise will be at 6.01 in Trinidad and 5.59 in Tobago, while
01:37sunset will be at 5.39 in Trinidad and 5.41 in Tobago. If you're thinking about taking a Friday
01:44dock, know that seas will be moderate with waves about one and a half to two and a half meters
01:50in open waters, but less than a meter in sheltered areas. Now here's a look at our tide times.
02:07As for Sahara, well, she's moving through the western Caribbean and is likely to be near
02:12hurricane strength by tomorrow as she heads towards Central America. Jamaica is already
02:17feeling the effects with these heavy rain bands that's moving through the island. For our friends
02:21in Florida and Cuba, it's still too soon to know if Sahara has plans to visit, but lucky for us,
02:26Sahara is not a threat. Looking out to our Caribbean neighbors, Grenada has been going
02:31through it with all that rain that they got yesterday. Torrential rains caused some serious
02:36flooding and loss of life. As of today, relief efforts are underway. Grenada's Prime Minister
02:42Dickon Mitchell shared photos via his Facebook of their Ministry of Infrastructure
02:46clearing out landslides while the Red Cross gave out donations.
02:58Internationally, Spain is battling yet another round of heavy rain and thunderstorms,
03:03forcing thousands to evacuate. Over 4,000 people in Malaga had to be evacuated after nearly a
03:09month's worth of rain fell in just one hour. This comes right after floods tore through
03:15Valencia and devastated their city. Our thoughts are with all of them at this time.
03:21And there you have it, folks. That's all I have for you tonight. More news after our break.
