Human Rights Watch accuses Israel of forced displacement, amounting to war crimes

Israeli authorities have caused massive, deliberate forced displacement of Palestinian civilians in Gaza since October 2023 and are responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity, according to a new report by Human Rights Watch.

00:22They point to a clear intent by Israeli government officials, including Netanyahu, to make the

00:27return of displaced Palestinians to their homes impossible.

00:32Given this evidence, including the sheer number of Palestinian civilians in Gaza driven from

00:38their land and the manner of displacement and the attempts to make this return impossible,

00:43the forced displacement is widespread, systematic and intentional and forms part of a state

00:48policy and amounts to a crime against humanity.

00:52In the areas where the military has raised, extended and cleared land for buffer zones

00:56and security corridors, Human Rights Watch finds these actions of the Australian authorities

01:01amount to ethnic cleansing.

01:03The report is being published amid an ongoing Israeli military campaign in northern Gaza

01:08that has created a new wave of displacement of hundreds of thousands of civilians.

01:13In its report, Human Rights Watch analyzed Israeli evacuation orders and said that they

01:18do not comply with the laws of war by failing to ensure safe passage and refuge for Palestinians.
