00:00Ed Sheeran took to the stage at the Music and Business UK Awards to honor his friend

00:06and former CEO of Warner Music Group, Max Lasada.

00:09Max has had a hand in shaping the careers of many of today's superstars like Dua Lipa,

00:13Rita Orr, Charli XCX, and of course, Ed Sheeran to name a few.

00:17And Ed had this to say.

00:18They don't make people like him anymore, music people.

00:21And if they do, they come around once in a generation.

00:24It's not about having a big marketing brain or being good at algorithms or jumping on

00:28the new hot things.

00:29It's about recognizing what are great, great songs and who are great, great artists and

00:33allowing them to grow.

00:34The event was a loving affair with Max sharing a few words himself after accepting his award.

00:39I just really wanted to kind of dedicate this as a music executive, but more importantly

00:45as a music fan to everyone who backs new artists that have something to say.
