00:00Hello, I'm reporter Sean Gleaves and I'm at the scene of a suspected gas explosion on Gillette Street in Preston.
00:06Police were called by the fire service to report an explosion on the street at around 10.35pm on Saturday.
00:11Fire engines from Preston, Bamber Bridge and Fullwood, along with the urban search and rescue team, attended the scene.
00:17One man suffered burn injuries in the explosion, which caused significant damage to the house and was taken to hospital for treatment.
00:23He was later discharged.
00:25A small number of surrounding properties were also evacuated as emergency services worked at the scene.
00:30Lancashire Police have confirmed a joint investigation will be launched in due course to establish the cause of the explosion.
00:36Cadent Gas confirmed on Monday that the local gas network did not contribute to the explosion after checking the site.
00:42Policier, Cadent's North West Network Director, said
00:45We supported the emergency service response to the incident in Preston late on Saturday
00:50and helped make sure everything associated with gas was safe, both for the teams responding and the local community.
00:56We concluded our involvement on Sunday, having thoroughly checked the local gas network,
01:01which we can confirm is sound and did not contribute to what has happened.
01:05Our thoughts are with the individual who was injured.
01:08Police also confirmed their investigation into the cause of the explosion was ongoing.
01:13They also stated that no arrests had been made.
01:16Neighbours living directly behind the property on Kerwin Street say they heard a massive explosion which made their house shake.
01:22One neighbour said the force of the blast caused the pictures in their back room to fall off the walls,
01:27while another says that a window from the affected property was blown into their garden.
01:31They have since been allowed back into their properties,
01:33but they have been told that they can't access their back rooms due to safety concerns.
