What I like the most about bees is that they have a perfect organization.
00:06
Each individual has a function in their hive.
00:10
Some are going to take care, some are going to clean, others are going to bring food.
00:14
And all of that makes them an organized society.
00:18
And everything is perfect.
00:20
I think that if we replicated a scheme like bees in society,
00:25
we would be a much more conscious and functional society.
00:30
My name is Adriana Belis.
00:32
I am the Operating Director of Rescues for Aveja Negra SOS.
00:37
Rescues for Aveja Negra SOS
00:50
Aveja Negra is a company that was created to be an alternative
00:56
for all of the bees that are in the city,
01:00
so that they can pose a risk.
01:03
The government protocol is to eliminate them,
01:06
and what we do is to rescue them from an urban area
01:09
to move them to a rural area where they can live in peace.
01:13
And we don't harm them or anyone around them.
01:24
The process of rescue for Aveja Negra starts when a user contacts us.
01:30
Most of the cases that come to us are difficult cases.
01:36
Every time we come to a rescue, we have to make a diagnosis
01:40
to know how to make sure that our work will be safe
01:44
and that we are not going to harm the bees or the population.
01:50
The theory of a rescue is to take the honeycombs
01:54
where the bees lay their eggs,
01:58
and a little bit of food reserves, such as honey, pollen,
02:03
take all those honeycombs and put them in transport boxes.
02:09
Rescuing is very tiring, it's too exhausting.
02:13
It requires a lot of concentration, you have to make a lot of effort,
02:17
it's heavy to be carrying.
02:20
The things I have to do in this organization are the rescue from above.
02:24
The team cannot access.
02:26
There are times when there is a sewer where the girls cannot enter.
02:32
My main responsibility is to make a viable and good rescue for the environment of the bees.
02:42
When we have a successful rescue, it is very satisfying
02:47
because the user is happy,
02:51
they feel like they are contributing.
02:55
I didn't kill them, it's a win-win.
02:58
They win, we win, and so do the bees.
03:08
Once the rescue is over, there is the rehabilitation part.
03:14
Our nurses will help rehabilitate our new hives.
03:22
As part of the rehabilitation, we focus on the most basic things.
03:27
One, that they are healthy.
03:29
If they are sick, we have to give them treatments.
03:32
Two, we need them to be strong, so we have to feed them.
03:37
Three, we need to increase the population.
03:43
After that, there is a series of treatments,
03:46
from keeping them clean, giving them water.
03:49
The process takes between three to six months
03:52
for them to be viable and to be able to donate to a beekeeper.
03:58
We have 602 successful rescues.
04:02
The smallest one that we rescued has 10,000 bees.
04:05
And the biggest one has up to 100,000 bees.
04:09
So, I can say that I have millions.
04:23
The importance of a bee lies in everything it does for us.
04:27
By us, I don't mean humans, but the whole ecosystem.
04:31
It is an important ecological modulator.
04:34
Pollination is the most important thing they do.
04:37
By having such a large population, it makes them so efficient.
04:41
Millions of bees in a hive can pollinate meters and meters of plants.
04:47
All this that they pollinate helps to have plants,
04:51
and many plants are food for fauna.
04:54
In the end, it also impacts humans.
04:57
Their importance is too much,
04:59
and the truth is that not all people understand it
05:03
and think that bees are the same as honey,
05:06
and bees are the same as saving the world.
05:11
I would love for bees to have more opportunities in the future.
05:18
I don't want them to be demonized.
05:20
They are a species that helps us a lot and that we must take care of.
05:24
My hope is that there will be more beekeepers.
05:28
My big dream is that black bees can be everywhere in the world.
05:33
If there was a black bee in each country, it would have a domino effect.
