A bakery smashing its fundraising target, the launch of the largest sandwich shop in
00:04
the UK, growth plans for a luxury cruise retailer, and the Yorkshire Rich List all feature in
00:09
today's Business Briefing.
00:11
Morning, Robin.
00:13
Morning, Dan.
00:15
I know you've got some news from some gigantic sandwiches for us today.
00:20
Yeah, we have a very exciting story from Bristol-based Sandwich Sandwich, who've just opened their
00:25
latest spot in London, and they're offering ginormous butties, apparently, so not one
00:31
to miss.
00:32
Sounds good.
00:33
So, yeah, they started off in Bristol, and then they've expanded into London.
00:36
They've had some funding from HSBC, which has helped them to kind of grow outside of
00:39
the Bristol region, and they've seen, yeah, really good growth across London, really high
00:45
demand for the sandwiches, and that's why they've opened this up to kind of meet that
00:49
demand.
00:50
And as well as giant sandwiches, there's also a giant sandwich shop at 3,500 square
00:55
foot.
00:56
Wow.
00:57
So big sandwiches, big restaurants, and possibly big profits.
00:59
Absolutely, yes.
01:00
So I've got some news from a bakery.
01:03
So JNCK Bakery, they specialise in creating healthy treats.
01:06
You might be familiar with them.
01:07
Yeah, they're one of our most exciting companies in the North West, actually.
01:10
Oh, there you go, then.
01:11
So they've smashed their funding goal following a campaign they launched on CrowdCube.
01:15
They were looking for 200,000, but at the time of recording this, they've received almost
01:19
212,000.
01:20
Wow.
01:21
They produce low-sugar, neutrally-enhanced cookies, catering to that growing market of
01:25
high-protein, low-sugar treats, and having been backed by Innovate UK and selected for
01:30
the Tesco Accelerator, their products recently launched in more than 550 stores across the
01:34
UK.
01:35
So obviously growing really quickly.
01:37
They said they plan to use the funds to help launch their products into retail and obviously
01:41
grow their marketing campaigns, and we've got our biscuit spreadsheet here.
01:46
We rate the biscuits from one to 10, and we'll see if we put this next up.
01:52
So moving away from food, I'm getting quite hungry now, I understand you've got a cruise
01:57
ship story for us.
01:58
Yeah.
01:59
So Panache Cruises, who's one of our Lancashire Wants to Watch companies, has been expanding
02:02
massively in the US.
02:04
They opened up a base in Orlando in Florida, and they've already outgrown it, and they're
02:08
now looking for a new premises.
02:10
That comes after they've made nearly 2 million in sales just in the last four months over
02:15
in the US.
02:16
So yeah, expanding really rapidly over there.
02:19
So they were also in the UK, made over 20 million in profits recently, and the founder
02:24
has said that they want to do even more than that in the US, so it's a real key growth
02:28
market for them.
02:29
And yeah, exciting to see what comes next.
02:31
Their plan is to get to 100 million turnover by 2028, so I guess this expansion is going
02:37
to help them achieve that.
02:38
Those are some really ambitious growth plans.
02:40
But anyway, just to finish off here, I've got the Yorkshire and Humber rich list.
02:44
I understand that's where you're originally from.
02:46
Any guesses who could be on the list?
02:48
I don't think it's any of my family, unfortunately.
02:50
Unfortunately not.
02:51
I'm just going to round off the top three here.
02:53
So in third place, we've got Lord Kirkham and his family with an estimated fortune of
02:57
1.14 billion.
02:58
They've achieved great success with the sofa retailer DFS, which he started up in 1969,
03:04
but it's still going strong.
03:05
In second place, we've got the Sheppard family with a value of 1.3 billion.
03:09
They made their fortune in the construction industry, and they were involved in one of
03:13
the sales of their businesses, which was reported to be worth around 1.5 billion earlier this
03:17
year.
03:18
And topping off the list, we've got Malcolm Healy, who turned 80 this summer, but he's
03:22
still going really strong.
03:24
No sign of slowing down.
03:27
Red Kitchens is what he founded.
03:28
You might be familiar with them.
03:29
Yeah, I didn't know they were Yorkshire based, but they're massive, aren't they?
03:31
Yeah, very huge kitchen retailer.
03:34
She founded in 2009, so relatively recently, but they reported sales of 1.1 billion in
03:39
the last year.
03:40
So obviously going strong there.
03:41
