CDC Links McDonald's E. Coli Outbreak To Slivered Onions, Affecting 90 People In 13 States

Ninety people across thirteen states have been infected in an E. coli outbreak tied to McDonald’s Quarter Pounders, the CDC announced Wednesday. Linked to fresh slivered onions supplied by Taylor Farms, the outbreak has led to twenty-seven hospitalizations and one death in Colorado. McDonald’s and Taylor Farms have since removed the contaminated onions, with the CDC assessing a very low current public risk. While McDonald’s plans to resume Quarter Pounder sales in about 3,000 U.S. locations, nearly 900 restaurants in affected regions will continue serving the burger without onions.
