00:00Under parliamentary privilege, Liberal MLC Jing Li put on record what she says was a
00:07night of intimidation, pressure and fear.
00:10As I've never experienced anything like it before, I went into a panic mode and my mind
00:16went blank and was blinded by fear.
00:19In the lead up to a vote on a controversial bill brought by Liberal MP Ben Hood seeking
00:23to change South Australia's abortion laws, Ms Li says she had an unexpected encounter
00:28in parliament with a persistent visitor she had never met before.
00:32The encounter with this external visitor made me feel very vulnerable on the night.
00:37I wasn't thinking clearly and was put into a compromising situation.
00:42She reneged on an agreement to abstain from voting to weave in the numbers with colleague
00:46Michelle Lensink, who's undergoing treatment for breast cancer.
00:50I make an unthinkable decision under pressure because I had a grave concern about my upper
00:55house pre-selection arising out of the various media reports.
00:59Ms Li is the only moderate Liberal in the upper house up for re-election in 2026.
01:04She has apologised to Ms Lensink, who made a desperate late night dash to parliament
01:09amid the debate before another colleague agreed to be her pair and the vote was defeated.
01:15Following her remarks, the Premier took aim at the Liberal leader, Vincent Tarsier.
01:19That sort of show and outfit is the alternate government of the state when women are feeling
01:25as though, or any member of parliament for that matter, is feeling as though her pre-selection
01:30is going to be compromised if she honours a pair with one coming from breast cancer
01:36on her own side.
01:38In a statement, Mr Tarsier says Ms Li has his full support and he does not tolerate
01:43bullying, adding no person should feel unsafe or intimidated in their workplace.
