00:00Liverpool's story portrait of a city has been created by local independent company
00:05Shut Out The Light Films.
00:07We're very proud to be from Liverpool but we're even more proud that we've made this film
00:11and we've managed to capture all of that forever now.
00:14We've captured all these lovely moments and events and hopefully it'll be a testament to the city
00:20for future generations to look back and watch it and think oh wow that's what Liverpool was like in 2023.
00:25The crew spent the whole of 2023 filming in neighbourhoods across the city
00:29to create an intimate documentary of the communities, voices and daily life in Liverpool
00:34over the passing of seasons.
00:36People were so helpful and you know we might just stick our head in the shop and go
00:39can we come in and film, we're doing this and when people knew that we were portraying Liverpool
00:44you know as locals, as local filmmakers, so helpful, just very welcoming.
00:48People let us in the shop or in their business no problem.
00:51Liverpool's story follows themes of home, belonging and memory
00:55exploring everything from drag nights to doggy daycare.
00:58One of the interesting things as well, people like to say this is what Scousers are like
01:04but we also made sure that we interviewed people from all walks of life
01:07so people who are asylum seekers, people who have moved here from other cities and other countries
01:12because being a Scouser is different to everybody.
01:15The film will premiere at the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic on Thursday 21st November.
01:19Filmgoers will also get to experience an organ introduction from resident organist Dave Nicholas
01:24who performs as the venue's unique cinema screen rises from the stage.
01:28It's Liverpool's time to shine, can't believe there isn't a film about Liverpool already
01:33it's one of the most famous cities in the world and there's so much more to it than football and music.
01:38The film will also be released in UK cinemas from November 21st.
01:43The themes of belonging and memory are important in the film
01:47and we have captured 2023 in Liverpool as it is now
01:51but it's really important to look to the future as well
01:54and the film ends on a note looking to the future and hopefully people will really enjoy that.
