00:00An initiative's been launched, which means the city's thriving film and TV sector will have a positive impact on the local communities.
00:08As the UK's most filmed city outside of London, Liverpool Film Office has launched the Film Friendly Neighbourhood Scheme,
00:14which means that productions which film in residential areas are encouraged to give something back to that community,
00:20enhancing community engagement, improving transparency and maximising economic and social returns for the area where filming takes place.
00:29We've been on the streets of Liverpool to ask, what would you like to see in your local area if it had access to these funds?
00:37I think if I had that in my area, I think that the money should be put into the young youth.
00:45I really do. To give them more opportunities, I think, to do certain things.
00:52I'd like to see more stuff going on for kids.
00:55Yes, because where I live, there's not a great deal, and no wonder they get into trouble.
01:02I think it would be really good to have perhaps more youth facilities around where I am.
01:08Not just youth facilities, facilities for everyone.
01:11Any funding is to be invested in local good causes or pulled into a central pot of money,
01:16which can be used to fund significant improvements to a particular area.
01:19The first area to benefit is Falkner Square, where productions such as Peaky Blinders, Outlander, Tin Star and many others have all filmed.
01:27Each production has donated funding towards improving the area and following community engagement.
01:33An accessible chess table has been installed, along with new signage, bins and a community notice board.
01:39In the past year, 263 productions were filmed across Liverpool.
01:44There were 1,254 filming days, bringing in £34.8 million and supporting more than 1,100 direct and indirect jobs.
01:57But why do you think Liverpool is such an attractive filming destination?
02:03Liverpool is so rich in the area, in the environments, isn't it?
02:07It's so diverse, so many things in the Georgian quarter.
02:11They've got ready-made sets, haven't they, really, with the buildings.
02:15St George's Hall, often use a backdrop, the docks, the river.
02:21Because it's iconic, this city, isn't it?
02:23It's the buildings.
02:26I mean, I go round by the Walker's Art Gallery, St George's Hall, and I feel as if I'm in Rome.
02:32Well, I'll tell you why, because the people are so nice.
02:36The City Council already has an existing Filming Code of Practice, which sets out guidelines to ensure film and TV activity in the public realm and the highway is conducted in a responsible and professional manner,
02:48while minimising its impact on residents and local businesses.
02:52Once rolled out, film-friendly neighbourhoods will be embedded into the documents as an example of best practice.
