Liverpool’s Empire Theatre to get a facelift

00:00The Empire Theatre, one of Liverpool's most historical cultural venues, is in line for a facelift.

00:07The firm in charge of managing the venue has lodged a planning application with Liverpool Council

00:11to undertake some repair and redecoration works on the front facade.

00:15It's the first proposed major renovation of the site in decades.

00:19ATG Entertainment, which manages the theatre, is looking to undertake a number of changes

00:24to the front of the Lime Street venue, including fixes to windows, the canopy and stone frontage.

00:29Where damage to the neoclassical Portland stonework exists,

00:32stonemasons will be employed to check over the area and replace mortar where required.

00:37To allow for work to go ahead, scaffolding would be required around the canopy.

00:41Metal and timber works will undergo renovations as well as a series of repairs to windows throughout the building.

00:47A date for the work to begin has yet to be announced,

00:50subject to approval from Liverpool Council's planning department.

00:54It is not expected that performances will be impacted by the work.
