00:04Parents from Chesterfield have launched a fundraiser for a charity researching a rare

00:07condition that's affecting their daughter.

00:10Violet Branigan, who is age 5 from Chesterfield, developed like any other healthy baby.

00:15She started to speak and walk and was hitting all the important milestones.

00:19But suddenly, in just three weeks, she lost her ability to speak and the use of her hands.

00:25Violet was diagnosed with Rett syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that affects brain development

00:29resulting in physical and mental disability.

00:32Her mum, Natalie, said it's the most cruel condition.

00:36Imagine the symptoms of autism, cerebral palsy, Parkinson's, epilepsy and anxiety disorders

00:41all in one 5-year-old little girl who fights the battle relentlessly every day while silenced

00:46by her condition.

00:48It affects around 1 in 10,000 girls born each year and is only rarely seen in boys.

00:54There is no cure for Rett syndrome approved in the UK, so treatment focuses on managing

00:58the symptoms.

01:00To raise funds for the charity Reverse Rett, the family have come up with a number of activities

01:05which will take place throughout October, which is Rett Syndrome Awareness Month.

01:09These include bake sales, a coffee morning, a swimming marathon and Violet's dad Stephen

01:14braving a charity skydive.
