Bramley Baths is getting set to mark 120 years of serving the community, celebrating its
00:06
position as Leeds' last remaining Edwardian bathhouse and a thriving community hub.
00:12
There'll be two special events, the first being on Thursday 17th October at 3pm, when
00:18
the Lord Mayor of Leeds, Councillor Abigail Marshall-Catong, will be attending a ceremony
00:22
at exactly the same time that the baths were opened by the then Lord Mayor of Leeds, Arthur
00:28
Curragh Briggs, in 1904. A public event will be held on Saturday 19th October in the form
00:34
of an Edwardian circus-themed birthday party which is open to all.
00:39
Since day one, Bramley Baths has served local needs and adapted through the decades as society
00:44
has changed. Through wars, pandemics and economic depressions, the baths have been at the heart
00:49
of the community, evolving with the City of Leeds. In recognition of its social, historical
00:54
and cultural significance, the baths were awarded a blue plaque in 2023.
