Welcome to your national weather update.
00:02
Plenty going on over the next few days.
00:04
Make sure you stay up to date with the forecast.
00:07
There are warnings in place.
00:09
We start with one overnight tonight
00:11
as the rain returns to Western Scotland.
00:13
It's been a fairly soggy day.
00:14
Rain easing for a time, but more rain
00:16
coming in through the early hours could cause some problems.
00:18
Certainly a lot of spray and surface water on the roads.
00:21
Rain will also return across Northern Ireland,
00:23
staying quite windy here.
00:24
In fact, the breeze picking up everywhere,
00:26
but staying fairly light across East Anglia and the southeast.
00:29
Maybe a little bit of drizzle here and there in the south.
00:31
But for most of England and Wales,
00:33
it's a dry night, a fairly cloudy night, and a pretty
00:35
mild night as well, with temperatures in some towns
00:38
and cities remaining in the teens.
00:41
On to Tuesday's details.
00:42
And, well, we start pretty wet across Scotland.
00:44
But quite quickly, that rain should
00:46
start to clear from the west.
00:48
A soggy morning, perhaps, through the central belt
00:50
and for Belfast.
00:51
But the rain edging away here, too.
00:53
And then lingering through the day
00:54
across much of West Wales.
00:56
And rain also fairly persistent coming afternoon
00:58
across northwest England.
01:00
Trickling towards the Midlands, some
01:02
getting to the east of the Pennines
01:03
and northern parts of Devon and Cornwall as well.
01:06
But East Anglia, the southeast, probably
01:08
staying dry and reasonably bright.
01:10
And it's pretty mild here, actually.
01:12
Temperatures likely to get to 19, perhaps
01:14
even 20 degrees Celsius.
01:16
Brighter skies come the afternoon
01:18
across northern Scotland, but staying fairly blustery.
01:20
Temperatures for many in the mid-teens.
01:23
But obviously feeling cooler than Monday
01:24
through this central slice with the outbreaks of rain,
01:27
which will continue into Tuesday evening.
01:30
Pushing south, but then grinding to a halt.
01:32
And actually, that rain then starts
01:34
to push back further north as we head through Tuesday evening.
01:37
Some heavy rain out west.
01:39
This is a circulation.
01:40
This is a developing area of low pressure.
01:44
That's why it's going to get so windy on Tuesday
01:46
night and Wednesday.
01:47
It's been picked up and intensified by the jet stream.
01:50
A bit of uncertainty about its exact track.
01:52
And that will have an impact on where the strongest winds are
01:55
and exactly how strong those winds are.
01:57
But it's been a blustery day everywhere on Wednesday.
02:00
And that low will also take heavy rain
02:02
across Scotland, a band of rain sweeping
02:04
across England and Wales.
02:05
But those winds, as I said, a cause for concern.
02:08
A large yellow warning area in place
02:11
at the moment for Wednesday.
02:12
Gusts of 55 to 65 miles an hour.
02:15
That's the most likely scenario.
02:17
But there is a chance that that low is a bit more intense
02:20
and brings a smaller swathe of gusts of wind
02:22
of 70 to 80 miles an hour.
02:24
It could cause some more serious disruption.
02:27
So that's why I say stay up to date with the forecast
02:30
and the weather warnings, which, of course,
02:32
you can always see on our app and on our website.
02:35
Here's the chart for Wednesday.
02:36
As I say, there's a bit of question mark
02:38
about exactly where that track of that low goes.
02:41
But heavy rain is likely across Scotland.
02:43
There's that band of rain swinging
02:44
across England and Wales.
02:45
But it should zip through fairly smartly
02:48
because of the strength of the wind.
02:49
And then we'll have sunny spells following on for most
02:52
come Wednesday, but also a whole raft of blustery showers
02:55
packing in on those gusty, gusty winds.
02:58
Temperatures, again, for a time, at least getting
03:01
into the mid or even high teens, but feeling cooler
03:03
with those blustery conditions.
03:05
Staying fairly gusty through the rest of this week as well.
03:09
For more information on that, you
03:10
can watch our week ahead forecast on YouTube.
03:13
And of course, as I said, check out those weather warnings
03:16
that are on our app and on our website.
