00:00It's been quite a wet August so far but the warmth is set to return this weekend
00:04which is a bank holiday for many. We're not talking about the extreme heat of
00:08July but in some places particularly with reference to the bank holiday
00:13weekend in August it could be record-breaking. So what's going on? We've
00:17got high pressure dominating across northern Europe that's building over the
00:20next few days and by the weekend with low pressure to the west of the UK the
00:25winds will be wafting up warmer air from France and from Spain. Let's take a look
00:30at that warmer air drifting northwards over the next few days. It really starts
00:34through Friday but pushes northwards during the course of Saturday and many
00:38places seeing those orange colours spreading in through Sunday and probably
00:43lasting into Monday too. Now for most places we'll just notice a jump in
00:47temperatures back to around or a little bit above average but for some places
00:51well temperatures really will be rocketing and potentially over 30
00:55degrees Celsius. Let's take a closer look then at some of the temperatures we're
00:59expecting this weekend. Initially on Saturday I think we'll see temperatures
01:03across northern Britain into the low 20s but further south into the mid even
01:08high 20s and 30 degrees is possible. If we fast forward to Sunday well those
01:13temperatures jump a bit higher across parts of eastern England in particular
01:16that's where we're likely to see the top temperatures getting up to maybe in some
01:20spots the low 30s. As you can see that many places will be more comfortable
01:24than that into the mid 20s and then for Monday itself well temperatures could
01:29peak at maybe 33 Celsius again somewhere across maybe these Midlands down
01:33across East Anglia and the southeast. For many places elsewhere we're nothing
01:38like that high but it will still be noticeably warmer and more humid than it
01:43has been. Now although we're not going to see these kind of temperatures into the
01:46low 30s everywhere it would still be pretty unusual if we do see them through the
01:51course of this weekend. If we compare to other Bank holiday weekends of the past
01:55the maximum temperatures most likely headline figures for this weekend could
01:59be 30 degrees on Saturday maybe 32 on Sunday 33 on Monday and they could be
02:04record-breaking because the late August Bank holiday records going back to the
02:09mid 60s show that for the weekend as a whole we've only recorded 31.5 before
02:14and for the Monday only 28.2 Celsius so there's a good chance that some records
02:18could be broken this weekend. Now there's still some uncertainty it's still a few
02:23days ahead we're not talking gloriously sunny weather everywhere there's still
02:26the chance of a few showers this weekend but for many it will be quite a lot
02:30warmer and a lot drier than it has been. Make sure you stay up to date with the
