00:00House prices rising could be a sign that an area is up and coming.
00:04It was not much of a surprise when Bristol City Centre and Harbourside
00:08had the biggest increase in the last year, with house prices rising by over 20%.
00:14Let's find out what locals think of the area.
00:17I think the fountains could be flowing.
00:20I think it could do with more energy, as we can see with homelessness
00:27and the increase of prices on all fronts.
00:32But it has an effect on the population.
00:35I think just very simple things like putting colourful lights in this strip of trees
00:40opposite the watershed would make a difference.
00:45I think it's got such potential.
00:48It's lovely to come to a peaceful place of water.
00:52Me and my husband do walk along the Harbourside
00:55and we do take full advantage, when we can, of the festivals here.
00:59So I think Bristol does a lot, but I think it could go that little bit extra.
01:05The use of light, particularly at night time and projections.
01:09Very simple things that we could do to really add that extra bit of sparkle
01:15and bring a real sense of pride to the city centre.
01:22I love the Harbourside itself.
01:24I love walking round there and the different cafes and buildings that are there.
01:31It's a really good exercise on a nice day.
01:38The city centre is a bit run down, to put it mildly.
01:42It'll be different when M&S come back, but it is run down.
01:47There's lots of shops around and I like how they still have lots of the old architecture as well.
01:55I do particularly like down by the M Shed.
01:59Just walking by the canal, it's really pretty, especially at sunset or sunrise.
02:06I do feel it's very, very expensive here in Bristol, definitely in the centre of town.
02:13Whether it's to go to a cafe or try and find a place to live.
02:18I think it's a really great place. It's where everything is.
02:23It's the centre. If you're a student and you're going out,
02:26you'll end up walking through city centre on your way to whichever club you're going to.
02:30So it does really feel like a hub, especially at the bottom of Park Street.
02:34It's always been a hub for creatives and for young people and for people working in arts industries.
02:41If we price those people out of Bristol, it's just not going to be Bristol anymore, is it?
02:48It lives for its arts and its culture.
02:50If you make it that people working those kinds of alternative careers can't afford living here,
02:55then it's not going to become the city that everybody loves.
