Conditions deteriorate in Sarasota before Milton's landfall

Storm chaser Connor McCrorey reported live from Sarasota, Florida, on the evening of Oct. 9, highlighting dangerous conditions beginning as Milton approached the coast

00:00Let's go to Sarasota because about 40 miles off to the west-southwest we find Milton and it is in

00:07Sarasota we find storm chaser Connor McCrory and Connor. What are the conditions right now?

00:14Well, it's gotten pretty interesting here just the last half hour in fact, I would like to show you a video

00:20Some videos that I shot just about 20-30 minutes ago that really go to show that earlier

00:26Very recently the damage around here in Sarasota not that significant

00:31There were some fear, you know minor tree damage a few signs and some flimsier things getting getting talked about

00:38But ever since I taught that stuff as I was preparing to meet you here

00:50I would say and

00:52We've even had I believe some mezzo board coming so things will be calm calm calm

00:57And then all of a sudden a really intense wind gust comes through and you can actually see it

01:01You're spinning off into the water. You can actually see what I'm talking about right back there

01:06These palm trees have been swaying we've been bombarded by debris here

01:10It's just sitting in the plot, but it's it's a lot more intense than it was before. That's for sure. No doubt about it

01:22I do want to begin with the wind map here a couple of reasons for that. We were just talking with Ali Reed

01:26She's down in Fort Myers Beach. Keep in mind that Beach

01:30Faces the south. That's why she's starting to get that increased storm surge because of the southerly wind

01:36I want to point this out

01:37This is important as bad as the storm surge is now keep in mind that in most locations

01:43Especially north of Captiva Island the wind direction is parallel to the coast

01:47So the storm worst of the storm surge it has not arrived yet
