AI is a big part of your business today.
00:05
Where do you stand now in terms of what
00:06
are the biggest challenges in terms of communicating
00:10
what AI can do for a business?
00:13
I think that if you really look at what's going on with AI
00:17
today, a lot of companies are still
00:21
trying to figure out what the use case is.
00:23
And they're still trying to figure out
00:25
how do they apply it in their organization.
00:27
And some are dipping their toes in,
00:29
and some are getting more adventurous or being
00:34
more aggressive in it.
00:36
And really getting people comfortable
00:38
with what it can do.
00:40
And getting people uncomfortable with the value
00:45
they can get out of their data.
00:47
So if we go back to the masters or to the US Open,
00:50
for example, the US Open, we gathered roughly 7 million
00:56
points of data across a two-week tournament.
00:59
No human can go through all of those.
01:01
No.
01:02
Nobody can.
01:03
But if you then start bringing that to life
01:05
and showing people.
01:06
So that's a two-week tournament.
01:08
You think about a company that's working throughout the year,
01:10
and you think about how many customers or clients they
01:13
might have in operations.
01:15
You start thinking about all those pieces.
01:18
It really can become a daunting issue for people to tackle.
01:23
So you can build an app that's powered
01:25
by AI and the cloud for a customer.
01:29
Yes, but it's also more than just apps.
01:32
This is about the way I look at AI,
01:35
and we look at it in many ways inside of IBM,
01:38
is there's a big iceberg.
01:42
The top 20% of that iceberg, that's
01:45
the consumer-facing applications of AI.
01:47
We're really focused on the 80% of the iceberg
01:50
down below, where the enterprise changes are going to happen,
01:53
and where the changes to the business are going to happen.
01:56
And so yes, there could be an application building,
01:59
but there could also be changes in the way HR operates.
02:02
There could be changes in the way you procure things
02:05
and supply chain.
02:06
Which could be an in-house app or app for internal use.
02:09
Yeah.
02:10
I mean, whatever.
02:11
Yeah.
02:12
Internally at IBM, what we call our client zero examples
02:17
is we took our HR, and now everybody
02:21
goes through an app called Ask HR.
02:25
It's now been broader to go Ask IBM.
02:28
And in the first year of that being put in place,
02:32
there were over 10 million interactions with that app.
02:35
And now you can move people's offices quicker,
02:38
and you can promote people quicker,
02:40
you can hire people quicker.
02:41
It just makes it much faster and much more efficient
02:44
to do that thing, so that people can shift their time
02:47
from doing the repetitive tasks that you could automate
02:52
to go to do more value-creating tasks.
02:54
I'll stick with another one, and that
02:58
is relating to Canva, who's partnering on this.
03:03
The content that we create, the average designer inside of IBM
03:09
spends 80% of their time on a derivative asset.
03:14
As we think about AI and we think about automation,
03:17
and I can take that 80% down to 50% or 40 or 30 or 20,
03:22
that becomes a much more robust design team
03:26
that can help create better journeys for our clients that
03:30
are not just personalized, but relevant,
03:32
relevant to the individual, relevant to the company,
03:34
relevant to the industry.
