00:00Fifty-two weeks, 52 protests, hundreds of thousands of protesters across the country
00:08over the course of a year.
00:10Gaza is being bombed into oblivion for 365 days, and I stand with the people of Gaza.
00:21A surprise Hamas attack in Israel in October last year killed 1,200 people, and around
00:27250 more were taken hostage.
00:31It was followed by an Israeli offensive that has killed more than 41,000 Palestinians and
00:37leveled most of Gaza.
00:38It's not about Israel.
00:39It's about the Palestinians who have been killed for a year in Palestine.
00:44It's a very important cause.
00:46Whatever the world is allowing to occur now, it's a crime.
00:52In Melbourne, protesters laid thousands of small paper kites, each representing the life
00:58of a child killed in Gaza.
01:01Meanwhile, police kept a watchful eye for banned symbols, including the Hezbollah flag.
01:08The group, along with Hamas, are designated terrorist organizations by the Australian government.
01:14In total, five people have been arrested nationwide, four in Melbourne and one in Sydney.
01:21It's displaying a Nazi symbol on a flag.
01:27Through rain, wind and sunshine, protesters here have showed up week in and week out,
01:32calling on the Australian government to act, but after a year of rallies, many of the protesters
01:37here say they feel that their calls are falling on deaf ears.
01:41What we're hearing from our own government is that full support for Israel, absolutely
01:47none for Palestine, absolutely none for Lebanon.
01:50And this is now 52 weeks of thousands and thousands of Sydneysiders here, from across
01:56the broad spectrum of society, asking our government to do more than sad tweets or statements
02:02of regret.
02:03The victims of the October 7 attack have also been remembered around the country.
02:08We want this war to end because we also, you know, we love every human being and we want
02:14the people in Gaza and Lebanon also to live in peace.
02:17We've seen a horrific rise in anti-Semitism since October 7 and even to think that many
02:24Jews did not feel safe to come out here today because of the worry that this event would
02:30be hijacked.
02:31I've never felt unsafe at these rallies and I stand in solidarity with them, that occupation
02:37is not a Jewish value.
02:39Supporting endless war in Gaza, Lebanon, Syria is not a Jewish value.
02:44More events will be held tomorrow to mourn all those killed in the war.
