After a tremendous amount of controversy, Alec Baldwin's film "Rust" is finally getting its moment in the spotlight -- it's set to premiere next month at Poland’s EnergaCAMERIMAGE International Cinematography Film Festival.

00:00You know the whole tragedy behind the Rust movie,

00:04where Helena Hutchins, the cinematographer,

00:06was accidentally shot and killed by Alec Baldwin

00:10because there was live ammunition.

00:11You know that the armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed,

00:16has been sentenced to prison for her role in this.

00:19Alec Baldwin was tried, but the case was dismissed

00:23because of prosecutorial misconduct.

00:25I never thought this movie was gonna get released.

00:27No.

00:27It is getting released, and there is a screening of it

00:32at a film festival in Poland.

00:35You say Poland?

00:36In Poland.

00:37Well, it's a big film festival.

00:38And what's interesting about this film festival

00:41is it's a cinematography film festival,

00:45and Helena Hutchins was the cinematographer in the movie.

00:49So it kind of makes sense.

00:51And Joel Sousa, who is the director,

00:55also, by the way, wounded,

00:57he is gonna be there.

00:58It is going to be shown to honor Helena Hutchins.

01:11He's obviously an executive producer on the film,

01:13the star of the film.

01:14Not to be at the premiere is a big deal,

01:17but it would be a huge distraction.

01:18And this is in Poland.

01:19It's meant to honor Helena Hutchins' life

01:21and her career as a cinematographer.

01:23There is a new cinematographer that's gonna be on the panel

01:25who finished the movie for her named Bianca Klein,

01:28along with Joel Sousa,

01:28and it really will be a remembrance.

01:30The question I have is, how will it be received?

01:32Will this be warmly received?

01:34Will they stand up?

01:35Without Alec there, I'm wondering if it'll be immediate.

01:37Derek, I think this is gonna be a big movie.

01:39I don't know how they're gonna receive it.

01:40I would imagine it'll be received well

01:42at the film festival.

01:43But I think once they finally do,

01:44if it's the theaters or if it's streaming somewhere,

01:46I think people are gonna be really curious.

01:49People are gonna watch this movie,

01:50and they wouldn't have before

01:51because it was a small movie.

01:52It's a low budget movie.

02:04and I think that's the case here,

02:05even though this was recorded afterwards

02:07and she was behind the camera.

02:08And it was really smart, I think,

02:09to do this at a cinematography festival

02:13because then it's squarely honoring Helena,

02:16and it's easy to stand up, to applaud, to cheer.

02:20I'm sure they're gonna do In Memory of Helena Hutchins

02:23at the end of the movie.

02:25So this was actually a very smart PR move.

02:31I agree that it's going to be really curious

02:34to see how this unfolds with Alec Baldwin

02:37and that decision that was made for him not to attend this.

02:40It makes sense, given that it seems

02:43I could interpret that behavior

02:44as a decision made out of respect

02:46to the loved ones, obviously,

02:48to not continue to relive this ongoing nightmare.

02:54When we talk about grief and loss,

02:55we talk so much about pain management,

02:57that the pain of losing somebody never goes away,

03:00but managing those symptoms,

03:02managing those emotions that can happen.

03:05With this too, commemorating somebody, commemorating her,

03:09specifically with the movie premiere,

03:11with this panel and a talk back involving that,

03:15that can, I think, provide an opportunity

03:18for everyone involved to help console.

03:20And I think, again, back to Alec Baldwin not going,

03:23that decision seems to be the right one

03:25in terms of pain management and the best kind of option,

03:28given the situation and the tragedy.

03:30Yeah, no, that all makes sense.
