00:00Rust writer-director Joel Sousa has complicated thoughts on his creation,
00:04and he says he has no relationship with the film star Alec Baldwin.
00:08After several years and an enormous tragedy, Rust will finally be released on Friday.
00:13Back in 2021, the movie cinematographer Helena Hutchins died after she was accidentally shot
00:18on set by Baldwin. After much debate, Sousa and the cast and crew returned to finish the film.
00:24But quite naturally, Sousa says he wishes he never made the film in the first place.
00:28He told The Guardian in a new interview,
00:30I wish I never wrote the damn movie. You think about the chain of events that started that
00:34morning of the shooting. Bad decision after bad decision was made. Prop armorer Hannah Gutierrez
00:39Reid was convicted of involuntary manslaughter and is serving an 18-month prison sentence.
00:44Baldwin was charged with involuntary manslaughter over his role in the shooting,
00:48but the charges were dismissed in December due to mishandled evidence. Sousa says of Baldwin,
00:52we're not friends. We're not enemies. There's no relationship. Sousa added that he hasn't watched
00:57the actor's recent reality show, The Baldwins. He said, I think I was busy hitting myself in the
01:03face with a frying pan that night it aired. For more on this story, go to THR.com.
