00:00Jonathan Major's film magazine Dreams is still headed for theaters despite being
00:04dropped by Searchlight in January following the star's criminal conviction.
00:10The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that studio Briarcliff has picked up the project for
00:14distribution and plans to release it in theaters in the first quarter of 2025.
00:20The distributor has a history of acquiring controversial projects and is next set to
00:24release the Donald Trump feature The Apprentice later this month after no major Hollywood studio
00:29would touch it. Magazine Dreams bowed at Sundance in 2023 to rave reviews for Major's performance
00:35as amateur bodybuilder Cillian Maddox, with the actor earning early awards buzz.
00:39Disney-owned Searchlight acquired the project after a bidding war but ultimately dropped the
00:44movie after Majors was convicted of assault and harassment stemming from an incident involving
00:49his ex-partner Grace Shabari. Major spent 18 months training for the role which earned
00:53comparisons to Robert De Niro's work in Taxi Driver. The film shot for 24 days around Los
00:59Angeles and won the Creative Vision Jury Prize at Sundance. Majors was once one of the top rising
01:04stars of his generation. Following his conviction, Marvel Studios dropped Majors as villain Kang the
01:09Conqueror while Lionsgate dropped his Dennis Rodman movie 48 Hours in Vegas before it began
01:15production. For more on this story head to THR.com and for the latest entertainment news and updates
