00:00The landslide victory achieved by Barisat Nasional and Paketan Harapan in the Makota
00:06by-election is proof of the growing support for the alliance.
00:10Former Sabah Chief Minister Salih Said Kerouac told FMT this, adding that BN's victory
00:15showed that voters want the political stability under the unity government to continue.
00:21BN's Said Hussein Said Abdullah defeated Brikata Nasional's Haizan Jafar with a majority
00:27of 20,648 votes last night.
00:30However, the final voter turnout for the by-election stood at 53.84 percent, slightly lower than
00:36the 57.34 percent recorded in the 2022 state election.
00:42Nevertheless, Salih Said, PH and BN recorded a huge increase in their majority in the by-election,
00:48indicating greater support for the coalitions.
00:52He said last night's victory also signifies the people's confidence in Johor Mandir
00:56Broussard on Hafiz Ghazi and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
01:00Salih also said the increase in Malay votes showed that UMNO is regaining its traditional
01:05support base under the leadership of its president, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
