00:13PH Secretary General Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the decision was made following a meeting

00:18of the coalition's top leadership, chaired by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, last week.

00:24In a statement, he said it was agreed that PH will support the BN candidate in line with

00:28the principle of incumbency, just as BN did during the Pulai Parliamentary and Simpang

00:33Jeram state by-elections in September 2023.

00:37Saifuddin said securing the Makota seat remains a top priority of the unity government, with

00:42PH pledging full backing for BN.

00:45Earlier today, BN Chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said his coalition has decided on its candidate

00:50for the September 28 by-election.

00:53He said the candidate will be revealed after discussions at the unity government secretariat

00:57meeting next week, and that a fresh face would be fielded.
