00:00The Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur has set December 9 and 10 to hear the prosecution's
00:06application to consolidate four charges of abuse of power and three charges of receiving
00:11money from illegal activities against former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
00:17Judge Azura Alwi fixed the date during a case mention on Friday, which was attended by Deputy
00:23Public Prosecutor Datuk Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladeen, along with Muhyiddin's lawyers Amir
00:29Hamza Arshad and Datuk Seri K Kumara Endran. Earlier, Wan Shaharuddin informed the court
00:35that all seven charges against Muhyiddin should be tried together as they are related. In
00:39response, Amir Hamza noted that the defence would also file an application on the same
00:44day to strike out the prosecution's request to combine the charges.
00:50During the same proceeding, Wan Shaharuddin requested the court to set trial dates, but
00:55Amir Hamza objected, stating that he needed to consult with lead counsel Datuk Hisham
01:00Tehpoteik. Judge Azura subsequently set October 3 for both parties to update the court on
01:07trial dates. On the same day, the court will also hear Muhyiddin's application for the
01:12temporary release of his passport.
01:15On September 11, the Court of Appeal dismissed Muhyiddin's application to review a previous
01:20ruling reinstating the four charges of power abuse involving 232.5 million ringgit. Muhyiddin,
01:29as then Prime Minister and President of Bersatu, is accused of using his position to secure
01:34232.5 million ringgit in bribes from Bukhari Equity Sendirian Berhad, Nepturist Sendirian
01:40Berhad, Mamfor Sendirian Berhad and Datuk Azman Yusuf for his political party. The alleged
01:47offences occurred at the Prime Minister's office in Putrajaya between March 1, 2020
01:54and August 20, 2021. The 77-year-old also faces two charges of receiving 195 million
02:01ringgit from illegal activities deposited into Bersatu's CIMB bank account between February
02:0825 and July 16, 2021, and between February 8 and July 8, 2022. Additionally, Muhyiddin
02:18was charged in the Sessions Court in Shah Alam on March 13 last year with receiving
02:24five million ringgit from illegal activities. That case was later transferred to the Sessions
02:29Court in Kuala Lumpur for joint trial.
