Privatisation reflections in Leeds City Centre

Labour has promised to renationalise the rail network - can you think of any industry that's been made better since becoming privatised?

00:00I'm trying to think about any industry that has been improved through privatisation. I'm

00:04struggling. You look at water, you look at rail, those are just two. I can't offhand think of any

00:10industry that's got better. If I think about trains, I've actually stopped taking trains

00:16because they're just too unreliable and you can't get a seat and it's just not worth it. Also the

00:22fare structure is too complicated. To be honest, off the top of my head I can't think of anything

00:26that I think has benefited from privatisation. The whole water sewage crisis is the main one

00:33that springs to mind that's been a complete disaster really. My experience of privatisation

00:39of a bus service has been very negative and I'm pleased to see that where the bus services have

00:45been taken into local public ownership, I think they've been much improved. Some things don't

00:50work well with privatisation. Some people will get a thing about it, if they're business people

00:54but it doesn't always work with privatisation. It doesn't, seriously.
