Businessman Mohammad Reza Makar on Wednesday claimed trial to a charge of criminal intimidation
00:08
against a woman.
00:09
The 39-year-old accused pleaded not guilty to the charge at the Putrajaya Magistrates
00:14
Court.
00:15
The accused is linked to Global Ikhwan Service and Business Holdings, which is being probed
00:20
by police for child abuse and sexual crimes.
00:23
The accused allegedly threatened the 25-year-old woman at a business complex on September 9th
00:29
for refusing to withdraw her police report.
00:32
He allegedly told the woman that they knew where she and her family lives.
00:36
If convicted, the accused can be jailed for two years or fined or both.
00:41
The accused's lawyer said the offense did not involve serious threats and was not linked
00:45
to the Global Ikhwan cases that had grabbed headlines.
00:48
However, the prosecution said the offense had affected the victim's mental state.
00:53
They said the claim that there was no connection to the cases was untrue, as the accused had
00:58
stated he is a member of the Global Ikhwan group.
01:02
The court allowed bail at 10,000 ringgit with one surety, asked for the accused's passport
01:07
to be surrendered, and required him to report to the police station once a month.
01:13
On September 11th, police rescued 402 children from care centers in Selangor and Negri Sembilan,
01:20
and they also detained 171 suspects, including a teacher and dorm caretakers.
01:26
The police said they are investigating allegations that 13 of the rescued children were sodomized.
