00:00According to one magistrate, he's a frequent flyer in Sydney courtrooms, but Andrew O'Keefe
00:08was out of sight today, behind bars, as his lawyer fronted the magistrate and the media
00:13on his behalf.
00:14If you guys know as well as I do, it would be inappropriate to comment at this stage.
00:18Once synonymous with TV game shows, a court today heard O'Keefe is now lucky to be alive.
00:25He had a brush with death over the weekend after a suspected drug overdose at a Vaucluse
00:30home.
00:31Police later allegedly found crystal methylamphetamine in his car.
00:36He was charged with possessing the drug and breaching bail.
00:40His lawyer didn't make an application for his release.
00:43Prison, the magistrate said, is now the best thing to do if he wants to stay alive.
00:49While O'Keefe will now stay in custody, his lawyer said he may make an application for
00:54bail at his next court appearance in October if a bed becomes available at a rehab facility.
01:01But the court heard that had been tried and tested and failed.
01:05He's been there.
01:06He's tried that.
01:07It's absolutely tragic.
01:09God help him.
01:10It's a shame he doesn't have an epiphany.
01:13O'Keefe will return to court next month.
