00:00I love taking risks, even if I appear fragile, there's that inner strength.
00:08Oh, I had a very simple childhood.
00:28I grew up in Calapan, Oriental Mindoro, so I'm Provinciana at heart.
00:32We had a simple life.
00:34My father was a government physician, so early on I knew what service meant, you know, serving
00:43the poor.
00:44My mother was a teacher, so education was a very, very important factor in our growing
00:50up years.
00:51We were taught very good values by our parents, the value of humility, kindness, all the stuff
00:58that you need to stand on to be successful in life, however you want to define success.
01:04I was a movie fan at heart.
01:10At my young age, I was listening to a lot of the radio drama serial.
01:15I had my favorite, Avagon Transistor Radio.
01:20And then sometimes when we would lose the signal, pinapalo ko pa yung bateryan yung Avagon Radio.
01:29I would listen to the operetang putul-putul of Nora on Noor and Tears Across the Third.
01:35I was a great fan.
01:36Oh my God, an avid fan of Guy and Pip.
01:39And I would buy the showbiz magazines, collect their photos.
01:44We would go to the theater also every Saturday when my father would do the rounds of the
01:48patients in town, kasi kami nandod kami sa may hospital compound.
01:54So my father would go to town every Saturday to visit his patients, and he would leave
01:59us in the theater.
02:01I read up on a lot of the stars, Amalia Fuentes, Gloria Romero, Susan Rosas, Nida Blanca.
02:08I watched the movies in the afternoon, kasi may Aninong Gumagalaw that was an old LVN
02:14and Sampaguita and premier movies.
02:17So from radio, when television came into being, I was glued naman to the television set.
02:23I was a fan of the ABS-CBN programs back then.
02:31I have so much empathy for them because when I was young and I would go to some live shows,
02:37pag medyo inisnab ako nung idol ko, nadidisappoint ako, umiiyak ako, parang, bakit, diba, I support
02:45all your shows, I buy all the magazines about you, di mo lang ako pinansin.
02:51One advice I would give the new talents is always appreciate your fans, always acknowledge
02:55them.
02:56I mean, a smile goes a long way.
02:58Acknowledge them.
02:59They're not just faces in a crowd, they're real people who admire you, who support all
03:04your shows, and you are where you are because of your following.
03:13Leadership is about inspiring a group of people to work towards a common goal.
03:17You have to know how to manage your ego and not think about you.
03:21It's not really about you.
03:23It's really about the people you're leading.
03:26So it requires for you to be a great listener, to be attuned to the people around you or
03:31the people working for the organization, can bring to the table, to produce excellent results
03:37for the business, also to be sensitive and to be in touch with the pulse of the people
03:42that you're serving.
03:48Number one is to have an open communication, to not be afraid to show your vulnerability,
03:55to be very honest about your feelings, no matter how imperfect you may be.
04:00It requires also a lot of listening.
04:03And when I say listening, it's not just listening to what he says, but most especially to what
04:09your partner doesn't say.
04:10He allowed me to bloom.
04:12What can I say?
04:13I mean, there's so much love and generosity in his heart.
04:17No matter how wide or how big the age difference was, it didn't matter because he allowed my
04:23person to bloom.
04:25He respected my space.
04:27You reciprocate that love and generosity with love and generosity and so much respect.
04:38It was really after I retired that I started taking care of myself.
04:42I found joy in my work.
04:44Work was life for me.
04:46When I'm stressed, I enjoy my showers.
04:50When I open the faucet and the water comes out, I really feel like I'm removing all the
04:58stress and the toxins in my body.
05:01I don't know.
05:02And then when I start wiping myself off, I dry up.
05:06I smile after.
05:08It all went to the drainage.
05:15Yeah.
05:16And I'm really calm.
05:17I'm not a dramatic person.
05:19I don't complain.
05:20I love taking risks, even if I appear fragile.
05:25There's that inner strength.
05:30My mother taught me to always believe in myself.
05:37We will forever be looking for icons.
05:39We're aspirational as a people, and we would always look up to people who are good examples
05:46of kindness, of good behavior, of good values.
05:50We're looking for effective leaders, leaders who can guide us.
05:54We're not all good at everything.
05:57I think it's human nature.
05:59You expect that sense of responsibility from the stars and from the icons that are being
06:04idolized.
06:07It can't be one way.
06:09You can't just be enjoying the fame and the fortune and forget about your sense of responsibility
06:14to your audience.
06:20That I'm able to sleep well at night.
06:23That I'm happy.
06:24That I'm able to do the things my heart desires, no matter how crazy it may appear to others.
06:31I'm healthy.
06:32I'm able to eat what I want to eat with moderation.
06:37That I've loved well.
06:39I've loved well and lived fully, and I continue to go with the flow of what life brings.
06:47That's happiness.
06:48That's success for me.
