00:00I'm quite nervous this morning. But you know, it's fantastic, isn't it? People are starting

00:05to gather now. The Great North Run is the jewel in our crown as a region. And you can

00:09just feel the anticipation and the excitement right across, right across the region. And

00:14it's lovely. But I'm also well aware that the amazing people who live on this route

00:19will come out and they'll have haribo and ice pops. And, you know, they will make sure

00:23that all of these 60,000 people keep going for this race. So, you know, there's seven

00:28mayors across the north representing 15 million people. Five of us are running today. And

00:33so it's a real privilege for me to invite them, to welcome them to the region. And I'm

00:38really, really glad to see them taking part in this iconic run.

00:42Andy Burnham, Greater Manchester's mayor, was the fastest mayor with a time of one hour,

00:4755 minutes and 24 seconds.

00:51Many charities come and support individuals running to raise money for them. We spoke

00:55to a few that were waiting excitedly at the finishing line about how the Great North

00:59Run has helped their organisation.

01:00Yeah, I'm here today to support our amazing runners.

01:05My name's Matt. I work with the Brain Tumour Charity and we're up here supporting 170 runners

01:11today who are raising money for a really good cause.

01:16It's a showcase as well for all the charities. You know, we're here, we can show you what

01:21we do, tell you what we do. We can try and recruit more volunteers, which we're desperate

01:27for. And so is every charity, it's not just us. And the money that it brings in through

01:36the sponsorship from the runners, we couldn't do it without them. And all the Great North

01:42Run is the best. Absolutely the best. People are lovely. I love the people of Newcastle.

01:50We absolutely love being up here, love supporting our runners. And it's an amazing event that

01:56gets put on every year. And we hope to be back next year.
