00:00But there is one large golf event remaining on the calendar.

00:07That is the President's Cup.

00:08And that was the news of the week in the golf world as on

00:12Tuesday, captain's picks for the international side with Matt

00:16Mike Weir and on the American side with Jim Furyk were announced

00:20and there were as it always seems to be for these competitions

00:24a Ryder Cup included some big surprises.

00:27So let's start with the international side where Mike Weir selected

00:32the following players Christian Bezaiden out, Corey Connors,

00:37McKenzie Hughes, Siwoo Kim, Minwoo Lee, and Taylor Pendrith.

00:43Big storylines here to me were that this was always going to be

00:47a selection conundrum for the Canadian Mike Weir because he

00:50unfortunately was in the unenviable position of having too many

00:54Canadians who did not automatically qualify for this team.

00:57The three that made it Corey Connors was essentially a lock at

01:00that seventh position and arguably the best Canadian player in

01:03the game right now.

01:04You had Taylor Pendrith was further down the standings, but who

01:07was who'd played well in the FedEx Cup playoffs and played his

01:11way into Eastlake and so showing some form with the win this

01:14year at the Byron Nelson that perhaps warranted a pick the the

01:19real selection conundrum felt between McKenzie Hughes, Nick Taylor

01:24and Adam Hadwin and it seems almost unfathomable that Nick Taylor

01:28a year removed from one of the most iconic moments in Canadian

01:33golf history sinking a long putt in a playoff to beat Tommy Fleetwood

01:37and win the Canadian Open so much so that his silhouette celebrating

01:40that putt was the logo of the Canadian Open this year.

01:43It seems insane that Nick missed out on this team, but he did

01:46indeed do that.

01:47McKenzie Hughes is the player that was selected and I think what

01:51this comes down to in my opinion was it's clear that Mike Weir

01:54valued putting in this competition and I say that because McKenzie

01:58Hughes is one of the best in the game and another player was

02:01selected to these captain's picks.

02:03The guy who's played well all season, but Christian Bazan how

02:05so to me and looking at his strategy here, that's a takeaway.

02:08I'm I'm gleaning from from the decision.

02:11He decided to make here with this Canadians is that he was going

02:14to have to leave a couple at home and he wanted the guy

02:16McKenzie, McKenzie Hughes that could show up make some clutch

02:19putts that could potentially swing the balance of this competition

02:22when it came down to crunch time.
