Aspiring NT boxer fights to raise awareness of men’s mental health

Will Tollner enters an amateur boxing fight to raise awareness for men's mental health.

00:00The sun is going down, but a champion is rising.

00:03This full-time accountant is stepping out of the office

00:06and into the boxing ring at the Birdville Races.

00:08I mentioned it as a drunken night out,

00:10and I'm a man of my word, and my friends kept me to my word.

00:13So, in the morning, I just had to double down.

00:15I'm trying to model myself off Boy Mayweather.

00:18He's never lost, I've never lost.

00:19There's just so many similarities.

00:21The fight might be for a laugh, but it's also for a good cause.

00:26Oh, everyone has dark days.

00:28But, yeah, definitely growing up, there's definitely a few mates

00:31that have lost the battle to mental health.

00:34Out of his depth, Will realised he may need help with his right hook

00:38and enlisted the help of a trainer at the 11th hour to prepare.

00:42It's not enough time to learn his timing and that,

00:44but for what he wants to do, seven weeks is enough.

00:48For Will to be victorious, he has to survive three one-minute rounds

00:52with an assigned fighter who could be any size,

00:55My fighting technique at the moment is just trying to get through the rounds.

00:58My mates have a lot of bets going at the moment

01:00that I won't last the first round.

01:02It's not a chance, no. No Korean boxing.

01:05If he's good, he's doing it for charity, he's going to have a good time,

01:09but, no, he's not a full-time jumper, Will.
