Search continues for teenager swept from rocks near SA’s Victor Harbor

The search for a 17-year-old Mehdi Habibi, who was swept off the coast of a South Australian tourism town, has resumed today.

00:00The search for 17-year-old Mehdi Habibi will be resuming today.

00:06His family says that they were visiting Granite Island here on Sunday for a picnic when he

00:11was swept off of the rocks.

00:13Now, Victor Harbour is a tourism town that's around 80 kilometres south of Adelaide and

00:19Granite Island here is one of the more popular local destinations.

00:23It's separated from the mainland by a causeway as well and we heard yesterday from family

00:27members of Mehdi who were here at Granite Island while the search was underway.

00:32His brother, Sahil, says that he was trying to take a photo of Mehdi when he slipped on

00:36the rocks.

00:37Now, his family have shared that they've been really worried and very scared throughout

00:41this process and a family friend says that Mehdi's family had migrated to Australia from

00:46Pakistan less than a year ago and he also said that he was known as a very caring son

00:51as well.

00:52SAPOL inspector Gene Vanninetti says that Mehdi had been washed from the rocks and was

00:57last seen in the water.

00:59He says that he was seen in distress and then disappeared from sight.

01:03Now, this search has been going on while South Australia's been facing some very tough weather

01:08like many parts across the country.

01:10There's been a lot of wind here and some rain yesterday too and SA Police says that that

01:14has been hampering the search operations due to those dangerous conditions but Jemma, SA

01:19Police say that the search will be resuming today.
