00:00The footbridge over the River Wharfe in Otley is set to be replaced after falling into disrepair.
00:07A temporary pedestrian bridge will be built over the river this autumn, before the existing footbridge is demolished and replaced,
00:14with the work scheduled to be completed in autumn 2025.
00:18The work has been carried out after defects were reported last summer.
00:22Leeds City Council assessed the bridge and further hidden defects were found on the underside,
00:28with an investigation concluding that the problems were more widespread and a new footway must be built.
00:34The temporary bridge will be built nearby and will link to Titty Bottle Park.
00:38Initial construction will involve the closure of Mill Lane and some tree and vegetation clearance on the southern side of the river
00:45to create a temporary working area and launch site for piling works,
00:49and to position a crane that will lift the bridge sections into place.
00:53Otley residents will be provided with regular progress updates throughout the scheme.
