Hello it's Martin Dempster the Scotsman Golf Correspondent here coming to you from the old
00:07
course at St Andrews just as the second round of the AIG Women's Open has been completed. No doubt
00:17
who the star of the show is at the halfway stage and that's the world number one Nellie Corder.
00:24
After two 68s the American sits on eight under par in the season's final major and that's going
00:34
to give her a three shot lead heading into the final two rounds on the old course. The American
00:42
she's won six times already this season. She had sort of gone off the boil a little bit in the last
00:49
couple of months but so far she's been very impressive here at the the Fife venue. She put
00:58
a new putter in the bag this week, a tailor-made spider and that certainly proved to be a worthwhile
01:06
move because she's really been rolling in the putts including a couple on the 17th, the notorious
01:16
road hole which she's birdied on both days. Leading the chase heading into the weekend the
01:24
defending champion Lillia Vu, she's become the first player since 2011 to win this event back
01:33
to back. She's three shots back as is Charlie Hill the runner-up at Walton Heath last year and the
01:42
English player would certainly be a popular winner here on British soil. Others in contention
01:49
include the Olympic champion Lydia Coe and also Ashley Buhai the South African who won at Muirfield
01:56
in 2022. No Scots in action over the weekend unfortunately. On her final appearance in the
02:08
event, 2009 winner Katrina Matthew, she missed out by three shots as the cut fell at four over
02:16
par. Katrina played really well today, she was two over par which was an excellent effort in
02:24
challenging conditions. She actually finished with a birdie, her only birdie over the two rounds. She
02:32
said she couldn't have scripted it any better to sign off her career and boy that's been a great
02:38
career in this event. Gemma Dryborough, she also missed out, she finished on 10 over par and now
02:45
the Aberdonian faces an anxious wait to find out if she'll make Suzanne Petterson's Solheim Cup
02:52
team which will be finalised on Monday. To keep up to date with everything about the AIG Women's
