00:00Hello, it's Martin Dempster, the Scotsman Golf Correspondent here, coming to you from

00:07Royal Troon on the morning of the 152nd Open Championship. We had quite an interesting

00:15first day here on the Ayrshire coast, where players experienced a wind direction that

00:22they hadn't encountered in any of the practice rounds. As a consequence, a number of the

00:29top players really struggled out there, including Cameron Smith, the 2022 winner at St Andrews.

00:38He shot a 10-over par round and therefore is struggling to make the weekend on this

00:43occasion. Rory McIlroy, another former winner, he's also facing a fight in the second round.

00:51He shot 7-over. Bryson DeChambeau, the US Open champion, he was 5-over. And Tiger Woods,

00:583-time Open champion, he's also up against it in this second round. The leader heading

01:06into day two is Englishman Dan Brown, a surprise leader. He had made just one cut in his last

01:13eight starts, but late in the day he came in with a 6-under par round to lead by a shot

01:20from the 2009 champion Shane Lowry. Amateur Callum Scott from Nairn, he shot a level par

01:29round and is the leading amateur after the opening round. Bob McIntyre, the newly crowned

01:35Genesis Scottish Open champion, he was delighted with a 1-over par effort, saying that was

01:41as close to perfection as he's had for a while. That certainly delighted the huge number of

01:46fans who are out following him on the course. Ewan Ferguson, he's just got the second round

01:53underway in a two-ball with Marcel Siem. And yet again, we're in for a long day's golf
