'Phenomenal' Sandhill View Academy students achieve school's 'best ever' GCSE results

Students and staff at Sandhill View Academy celebrate the school's best ever results.

00:00Okay, Mrs Dodd, lots of smiles in there. How pleased are you with this year's results?

00:04Well, to say I'm proud of the children is an absolute understatement. They've done phenomenally

00:09well this year. We've got over 60% of our students securing a 4-plus in their maths

00:16and English, and we've got half of our children securing a 5-plus in their maths and English.

00:22And that's just a testament to all of the hard work that's gone into this year from

00:26both the staff, students, and the support from their parents. So I personally would

00:31just like to thank our staff for all of their hard work and tenacity with the children this

00:37year. I'd like to thank the parents for sending their children into school every day, because

00:42that's made a massive difference, and for supporting us with their children. And finally,

00:47I'd like to thank the students, because they've came in every single day, they've taken every

00:52opportunity that's been offered to them, and they've worked so hard, and these results

00:57reflect all of their hard work.

00:59I understand it's one of the best sets of results the school's ever had, is that right?

01:02It is the best set of results the school's ever had, and I'm super proud of all of the

01:06hard work that's gone into this. This has been, you know, a culmination of consistency

01:12across a number of years, and all of the hard work has paid off, so yes.

01:17And these kids, obviously their education was disrupted by COVID, so does that even

01:21make it all the more special that they've done so well?

01:23It was, and I think COVID has made a massive impact on our students, particularly our disadvantaged

01:29students, and this year our disadvantaged students have done just as well as our non-disadvantaged

01:34students, which is something we always have prided ourselves on. So to retain that again,

01:39and to get that back to where it should be, as it was pre-COVID, is something we're all

01:44really proud of here at Sandhill View Academy.

01:47Okay, then Maddis, I understand your results show you made the most progress in the school,

01:51so what were you expecting on average, and what did you actually get?

01:54So for Englishes, I was expecting around sevens, but then in the English language I got a nine,

02:00in literature I got an eight. In maths I was pretty, like, I didn't feel confident in the

02:05papers, like I was really struggling, but then I managed to get an eight. In combined

02:10science I was feeling confident, and I got an eight-seven. In German I was expecting

02:15I got a nine. In history I wasn't feeling confident either, I was thinking I got a seven,

02:20I got a nine. In sport I wasn't feeling confident again, I got a level two distinction, and

02:25in media I got a level two merit.

02:27How did you feel coming in this morning, were you nervous?

02:30I was pretty nervous, yeah, but I've been feeling excited over the holidays, so it kind

02:34of, like, balanced out a bit.

02:35And how did you feel when you opened those results and saw what you'd got?

02:39It was, like, really overwhelming, like, I was feeling, like, massive success and happiness,

02:44but at the same time I was, like, just, like, so thankful for all my teachers, for the grades

02:49that they've gotten me.

02:51And yourself, what did you get for your results, and how many of each number did you get?

02:56So, for English language I got an eight, English literature I got a nine, which I weren't

03:01expecting at all. Maths I got a nine, further maths I got a nine, biology I got a nine,

03:07chemistry I got a nine, physics I got a nine, geography I got an eight, in German I got

03:12an eight, and in BTEC sport I got a level two distinction.

03:15So, obviously you've done really well there, were you expecting to do as well as that?

03:19Not as well.

03:20How did you feel when you opened your results then?

03:23Really happy and quite shocked as well, yeah.

03:26How did you feel coming in this morning?

03:28Extremely nervous.

03:30And what are you going to do now?

03:32I think I'm going to go out for a meal with my family.
